"Peripeteia's main strength lies in its grandiloquent song structures that nip at black metal's boundaries. This is black metal at its most grand, coldly melodic and unapologetically over-the-top without stumbling into wimpy, overly symphonic territory..." - Noisey
“Autobiographical black metal with the weight of reality” - Invisible Oranges
“Black metal expansionists…” - Decibel Magazine
"[W]hat really solidifies its greatness is the mournful air lurking in each song, lending heart and soul to a cold and dark journey." - LEO Weekly

Peripeteia is an honest and passionate autobiography of vocalist—and now protagonist—Zachary Kerr. The themes in Peripeteia have no apparent beginning or end as the record is composed to infinitely loop, repeating the dramatic emotions we all encounter in our own lives.
Continuing their namesake theme of concepts from Aristotle’s Poetics, the Greek word “peripeteia” means “a sudden reversal of fortune or change in circumstances,” and was described by the philosopher as occurring immediately after the moment of self-recognition, or anagnorisis. Peripeteia is not only the culmination of the band’s legacy in the US black metal scene, but a story 30 years in the making, a story told through the heart-breaking lens of audio tapes from Kerr’s childhood, spliced throughout the album.
What started as a cathartic effort by Kerr in 2013—Anagnorisis’ previous LP Beyond All Light—is finished with raw emotion in the form of Peripeteia, which serves as both the prequel (tracks 1-5) and sequel (tracks 6-8) to the critically acclaimed 2013 release.
